AMS Neve 8816
The 8816 brings legendary Neve console sound to 19" rack format. Using the same topology as the classic 80 Series console, with two Marinair transformers on the stereo bus output, the 8816 is the ultimate 16 channel rackmount Neve console.
The 8816 Summing Mixer performs like a mini Neve mixing console with an active summing design providing up to +15dB of gain boost for its 16 individual balanced inputs.
The 8816’s powerful mix bus topology uses voltage mixing through dual Marinair Transformers. This design was pioneered in the early Neve 80-series consoles and many revered engineers claim gave those classic recordings that golden, cherished sound. Voltage mixing drops the pre output level to around -80dBu, similar to microphone level, this is then boosted back through the output transformers to drive the final output stage.
Packed with Neve large-format console features, the 8816 is ideal for tracking in the studio. Independent cue sends from all 16 channels, multiple headphone connections & controls and a built-in talkback system, the 8816 is the complete recording package for the small studio.
The 8816's enhanced summing features allows Producers to focus on the mix. Each channel has cut and solo switching options plus a dedicated rotary pan control with -3dB centre panning & S-Law shaping for accurate panning to the extremes.
With the Neve console monitoring controls on the 8816, there is no need for a separate monitor controller for your studio. Dual balanced or unbalanced loudspeaker outputs can connect to two pairs of studio loudspeakers, with multiple monitoring sources to choose from, including 3.5mm mini-jack for external iPhone/MP3 player monitoring.
To complement the Marinair transformer-coupled mix bus, the 8816 includes two stereo bus inserts. The second IMR insert features a blend function; ideal for parallel bus compression using your favourite analogue compressors.
The 8816 features a powerful mid-side processor which can be activated before the insert sends. This feature enables separate processing of mono and stereo information by adding EQ compression or any external processor. In addition, Neve’s proprietary stereo width function further enhances stereo imaging with the width pot sweeping from mono through to a hyper-wide enhanced stereo image, producing musical results at all positions.
For hands-on control of all 16 mix levels and stereo mix output, pair the 8816 with an 8804 fader pack. This setup transforms the 8816 into a true Neve console. If 16 channels aren’t enough, combine multiple 8816 units using the 2-Track bus linking feature to create a larger mixing console suited to your studio requirements.
Efficiently recall your sessions by connecting the 8816 to your PC/Mac via USB and opening the interactive Neve Recall software program. Routing and switching are handled automatically at the push of a button, whilst the 8816's rotary pots are manually tracked to their stored positions - in a matter of seconds.
The optional A/D conversion card provides a stereo digital output from the 8816 in multiple formats. This card uses premium, Neve quality converters with switchable headroom settings to integrate with any digital system. The digital outputs are provided in AES 3 and DSD formats, with selectable sample rates of up to 192kHz, and clocking options via AES Sync or word clock BNC connections. This digital converter also features an ADC insert, allowing external signals to access the high-quality Neve A/D converters.
